It’s here — and the price is right!
The loooooooong awaited and hyped iPad has finally shown its face. And it looks pretty damn good. Prices will start at $499, and go up (for more storage and 3G service), but top out at $829, loaded for bear.
AT&T is providing the service and throwing in free use of their wi-fi hotspots in the US. Unlimited data plans will be $30 a month. You can activate service right on the iPad itself, prepaid with no contract, cancel anytime. But way better, we’re told all iPad 3G models come unlocked. That means, we hope and pray, we’re not locked into AT&T, for better or for worse.
“It’s not a new product,” touts Apple, “it’s a new category.” The new iPad, they say, bridges the gap between smartphones and laptops.
The bad news? For my fellow, first adopters… it’ll be about 60 days before they’re available — 90 for 3G models.
